After a relaxed morning in the village, you can take a short hike around the surrounding hills or towards the nearby viewpoint near the Tibetan border. This gentle ascent helps improve acclimatization while offering stunning views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, barren valleys, and rugged landscapes of the Manaslu region.
You may also explore the traditional village of Samdo itself, home to Tibetan-influenced culture, stone houses, and yak pastures. Interacting with locals provides insight into their unique high-altitude lifestyle and traditions.
The rest of the day is spent resting, hydrating, and enjoying the peaceful mountain environment, preparing your body for the higher elevations ahead on the trek.
Samdo to Dharamshala
Today’s trek takes you from the peaceful village of Samdo towards Dharamshala (Larkya Phedi), also known as Larkya Phedi.
After an early breakfast, you begin your gradual ascent through a stark and dramatic landscape, leaving behind the last permanent settlement before the high pass. The trail follows open valleys and glacial streams, with stunning views of the surrounding peaks and the Tibetan border region. As you climb higher, the vegetation fades, replaced by rocky terrain and a more rugged Himalayan environment.
The walk is shorter in distance but more challenging due to the altitude, so the pace remains slow and steady to aid acclimatization. Along the way, you may spot yak caravans and enjoy the vast, untouched wilderness of the Manaslu region.
Upon reaching Dharamshala, you will rest at a basic mountain lodge. The evening is spent preparing for the most challenging day ahead crossing the Larkya La Pass while enjoying a warm meal and the serene high-altitude atmosphere.
Dharamshala to Larke La pass and to Bhimtang
Today, we begin one of the most challenging and rewarding sections of the trek as we cross the Larkya La Pass. We will start early in the morning with breakfast before setting out on the trail. The route gradually ascends through rocky terrain, glacial valleys, and alpine landscapes, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
As we continue, the trail becomes more demanding with higher altitude and steep sections, so we maintain a slow and steady pace. Along the way, you may experience the raw beauty of the high Himalayas and possibly spot some wildlife adapted to this harsh environment.
After reaching the Larkya La Pass, you will have time to rest, take photographs, and enjoy the incredible panoramic views. This is one of the most memorable highlights of the entire journey, marking a major achievement of the trek.
From the pass, we begin our descent towards Bhimtang, walking through dramatic mountain scenery and glacier-fed landscapes. Bhimtang serves as a peaceful resting place for trekkers after crossing the pass, where we will spend the night and reflect on the accomplishment of the day.
Bhimtang to Tilije
Drive back from Tilije to Kathmandu
