Short Itinerary

Muktinath Darshan Yatra Tour takes you to the sacred place of Hindus and Buddhists in the heart of Muktinath valley at an altitude of 3,710m. Hindus recognize this place as “Mukti Kshetra,” which means “The Place of Salvation.” The temple is worshipped as 105th among the available 108 Divya Desam and is highly revered by the Sri Vaishnava sect. In addition, it is one of the 51 Shakti Pitha Goddess sites. Muktinath Temple protects a human-sized golden statue of Vishnu named Shri Mukti Narayan.

In addition to Mukti Narayan, the temple also houses bronze images of Bhoodevi (the Earth –goddess form of Lakshmi), the goddesses Saraswati and Janaki (Sita), Garuda (the mount of Vishnu), Lava-Kusa (the sons of Rama and Sita and the Sapta Rishi (Seven sages formed with the blessing of Lord Varma).

There are 108 water spouts placed in a semi-circular shape at a height of seven feet behind the temple. The freezing water of the Kali Gandaki River has been diverted to water spots, and very few pilgrims can stand the ice-cold water of the spout. B bathing in 108 water spouts is believed to clean all the sins attained in a lifetime. Buddhists know Mutinath as Chumming Gyatsa, which means “Hundred Water” in Tibetan dialects.

It is the place of Dakinis goddesses, also known as Sky Dancers, and worshipped as one of the 24 celebrated Tantric places. Legend has it that Guru Rimpoche, Padmasambhava (the founder of Tibetan Buddhism), medicated in Muktinath on his way to Tibet. After the Muktinath Temple tour, pilgrims visit Mebar Lha Gompa, the small monastery known for its “miraculous fire.” It is located at the entrance gate of the temple. This monastery, with the statue of Buddhist lord Chenrezing (Avalokitesvara), is famous for its ever-burning natural gas fire, which Hindus praised as Jawal Mai, the Goddess of Fire.
